Reeson’s Ramblings :: May 13, 2018
I was at a large family gathering where my mom announced that I had “made one woman very happy by my ordination ”. I told her, “I know you love me, you’re proud of me, and you think I am wonderful, but do you have to say this in front of everyone? It’s embarrassing”. She replied, “I wasn’t speaking about myself when I said you pleased one woman, I was speaking about the woman you didn’t marry!” Mom’s can build us up and bring us back down to reality, but we love them all the same.
Happy Mother’s Day to all our wonderful moms! Whether you’re the mom with four rambunctious kids crawling over the pews, or the mom with a newborn crying in the back, we are glad you’re here. Noise is just a sign that our parish is breathing. Today we love, honor and remember in prayer all of our moms, living and deceased. Our Moms of Faith and Elizabeth Ministry are both wonderful groups for moms to connect with others and share their vocation.
Moms of Faith promotes spirituality, fellowship, and service to others, and Elizabeth Ministry emphasizes providing support and mentorship to women experiencing the joys and sorrows of childbearing and motherhood. If you are not already a part of these groups, I highly recommend joining. To sign up or to learn more, contact Melissa Nelson at firstname.lastname@example.org about Moms of Faith, and Marci Petta at email@example.com concerning the Elizabeth Ministry.
May is the month of a lot of things. It’s National Mobility Awareness Month. It’s National Pet Month. It’s New Zealand Music Month. For many, it’s graduation month. Above all these, though, it’s the month of Mary, our own Mother. Our grade schoolers started the month with a beautiful May Crowning ceremony. As the school year comes to a close and summer begins, let us ask our Mother to watch over us as we continue to grow closer to her son, Jesus.
